पुराने समय की बात है एक मुर नाम का राक्षश होता था , उसने भगवान ब्रह्मा जी का वरदान था की उसकी मृत्यु किसी देवता मनुष्य या जानवर से नहीं हो सकती पर एक कन्या उसका वध कर सकती है , जिसकी वजह से पृथ्वीलोक पे उसके अत्याचार बढ़ गया , उसने सभी देवताओं को परजीत कर के उसने देवलोक पर कब्ज़ा कर लिया।
It was a matter of old time there was a monster named as Mur, it was a boon of Lord Brahma that no god , man or animal can kill him, but only a girl can kill him, due to which his atrocities on the earth increased. he Subdued all deities and took possession of the Divine order.

सभी देवताओं के अनुरोध पर भगवान् विष्णु जी ने उनके धुखो का निवारण करने के लिए मुर नाम के दैत्य से युध्ध किया जो की लम्बे समय के लिए चलता रहा , युद्ध बंद न होने के कारन भगवन नारायण जी को याद आया की उस दैत्य की मृत्यु सिर्फ एक कन्या के हाथों ही हो सकती है , भगवन विष्णु जी सिकंदरा नामक पहाड़ पे जाकर एक गुफा में लेट गए , मुर उन्हें ढूढ़ता हुआ वहां जा पंहुचा और उसने देखा की भगवान् विष्णु जी नींद में है और उनपे वार करने लगा। उसी समय भगवन विष्णु जी के दिव्य शरीर से एक कन्या ने अवतार लिया , जिसने मुर राक्षस से युद्ध किया और उसका वध कर दिया।

At the request of all the gods, Lord Vishnu fought with the monster named Mur to redress his fury, which continued for a long time. Because the war was not stopped, Lord Narayan ji remembered that the death of that monster only Can be in the hands of a girl. Lord Vishnu went to Sikandra mountain and lay in a cave, Mur found him and went there and he saw that Lord Vishnu was in a sleep and he is about to attack him. At the same time a daughter of Lord Vishnu's divine body embraced it, who fought with the monster and slaughtered him.

उसी समय से उस कन्या को मुरारी देवी के नाम से जाना जाता है। द्वापर युग में माता ने पांडवों को अज्ञातवास के समय दर्शन देकर उनको उस पहाड़ी पर खुदाई करके मदिर स्थपित करने के लिए कहा , आज उस पहाड़ को माता मुरारी के नाम से जाना जाता है।

From that time onwards, that girl is known as Murari Devi. In the Dwapar era, when the Murari devi appeared to Pandavas at the time of ignorance , she asked them to dig out the hill and set up the temple, today that mountain is famous from the name of  Mata Murari.
